How to Write Product Listings That Sell

By the Hymazon Digital team 1 min read

Turn browsers into buyers: how to write product titles, descriptions, bullet points and photos that answer questions and win sales online.

Your listing is your salesperson

Online, nobody can pick up your product or ask the shopkeeper a question. The listing has to do that job. A good one answers the buyer's questions before they think to ask, and gives them a reason to choose you over the next result.

Write a title people search for

Lead with what the product is, then the details that matter most to buyers: brand, material, size, colour or quantity. "Cotton Bedsheet Double Size with 2 Pillow Covers, Blue Floral" beats a clever name nobody searches for. Keep it readable and avoid stuffing in every keyword you can think of.

Use bullet points for the key facts

Shoppers scan before they read. Put the five things they most need to know in short bullets:

  • What it's made of and how big it is.
  • What problem it solves or how it's used.
  • What's in the box.
  • Care, warranty or compatibility details.
  • What makes it different from cheaper options.

Describe benefits, not just features

"400 thread count" is a feature; "soft and cool enough for summer nights" is the benefit the buyer cares about. Pair each important feature with what it means for the customer, in simple language.

Show it properly

Photos often matter more than words. Use a clean main image on a plain background, then add photos of the product in use, close-ups of the material, and an image that shows its size. If buyers keep asking the same question in reviews or messages, answer it in the listing or in a photo.

Keep improving

Read your reviews and returns. If customers say it's smaller than expected, add measurements to the title or photos. Small, steady fixes to your best-selling listings are one of the cheapest ways to grow sales.
